Recycling

PART 1

1. Do you recycle?
Band 7

Not really, because there aren’t many options for recycling in my area. But whenever I get the chance, I try to recycle things like plastic bottles or paper. I also try to reuse bags and containers instead of throwing them away. I think small steps like these still matter.

Band 8

Not really, to be honest, because recycling options are quite limited where I live. There aren’t many proper bins or centers nearby, which makes it a bit difficult. However, I still try to do what I can—for example, I reuse plastic containers and avoid using single-use items when possible. If I come across a recycling bin, I always make sure to use it. I also try to reduce waste in other ways, like donating old clothes or carrying a reusable water bottle. Even though the system isn’t perfect, I believe every small action helps.

2. Why is recycling important?
Band 7

Recycling is important because it helps reduce waste and keeps the environment clean. It also saves natural resources by reusing materials like paper, plastic, and metal. When we recycle, we create less pollution. It’s a simple way for everyone to help the planet.

Band 8

Recycling plays a key role in protecting the environment. It reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, which helps lower pollution and save space. More importantly, it conserves natural resources like trees, water, and minerals by giving materials a second life. Recycling also uses less energy compared to producing new products from raw materials. In the long run, this helps fight climate change and reduces harmful emissions. It’s a practical and effective habit that individuals and communities should adopt.

3. What things can be recycled?
Band 7

Many everyday items can be recycled, like paper, plastic bottles, glass, and metal cans. Clothes, electronics, and old batteries can also be recycled in some places. It depends on the recycling system in the area. People just need to check what’s accepted and sort their waste properly.

Band 8

A wide range of items can be recycled, including paper products, cardboard, plastic containers, glass bottles, and metal cans. Many electronics, like old phones and laptops, can also be recycled at special centers. Even clothes and shoes can be donated or recycled instead of being thrown away. Some places also accept used batteries, light bulbs, and kitchen appliances. However, recycling rules vary by region, so it’s important to follow local guidelines. With proper sorting, a large portion of our daily waste can be reused or turned into something new.

4. Do you think recycling is popular in your country?
Band 7

Not really. Recycling is not very popular in my country because there aren’t many proper facilities or awareness. Most people still throw everything in one bin. Some people do try to recycle, but it’s not a common habit yet.

Band 8

I don’t think recycling is very popular in my country at the moment. There’s still a lack of awareness, and many people aren’t used to separating their waste. Also, the government hasn’t provided enough proper recycling bins or services in most areas, which makes it harder for people to take part. Some people are becoming more environmentally conscious, but it’s still a small percentage. I believe if there were more education and better infrastructure, recycling would become more common. For now, it’s something that only a few people do seriously.
