IELTS Speaking Part 2 – Instructions

• You will have 1 minute to think and make notes on the topic.

• The examiner will give you paper and a pencil for note-making.

• Then, you must speak continuously for 1–2 minutes on the topic.

I want to talk about a friend of mine who comes from India. He moved to my city a few years ago for studies. I really enjoy spending time with him because he has a different perspective on life and unique traditions. For example, he often tells me about Indian festivals and food, which I find interesting and exciting. He also has a different way of celebrating birthdays and special occasions, which is fun to learn. Talking to him has helped me become more open-minded and understanding of other cultures. I like how he respects both his own traditions and local customs. His stories about life in India are very informative and inspiring. Meeting him has made me more curious about the world and different ways of living.

A person I would like to describe is a colleague from Japan. He moved to my city for work, and I quickly became friends with him. What fascinates me about him is his unique cultural perspective and the way he approaches daily life with discipline and mindfulness. He often shares insights about Japanese festivals, food, and traditions, which I find both intriguing and educational. I am particularly impressed by his respect for rules and the environment, which is very different from what I am used to. Spending time with him has broadened my understanding of other cultures and taught me to be more open-minded and tolerant. He also has interesting ideas about work-life balance and personal development, which I try to learn from. His stories, experiences, and values are truly enlightening and inspiring. Knowing him has made me appreciate cultural diversity and how it can enrich our daily lives.
