Driving
PART 1
1. Do you like driving?
Band 7
Yes, I like driving because it gives me a sense of freedom and independence. I enjoy being able to go wherever I want without waiting for public transport. However, sometimes traffic and parking can be stressful.
Band 8
I do enjoy driving, mainly because it offers a lot of freedom and flexibility. I like the feeling of being in control and the convenience of traveling directly to my destination. However, driving in heavy traffic or looking for parking can sometimes be frustrating. Despite these minor annoyances, I find driving relaxing, especially on quiet roads or during road trips. It’s also a great way to clear my mind and enjoy some alone time. Overall, driving is something I appreciate for both practical and personal reasons.
2. When did you learn to drive?
Band 7
I learned to drive when I was around 18 years old. I took lessons from a local driving school and practiced a lot with my parents. It took me a few months to feel confident behind the wheel.
Band 8
I started learning to drive when I was about 18 years old. I enrolled in a professional driving school and took regular lessons over several months. In addition to formal lessons, I practiced frequently with my parents to gain more confidence. It was a gradual process, but by the time I passed the driving test, I felt comfortable and safe on the road. Learning to drive has definitely given me more independence and flexibility in my daily life.
3. How often do you drive?
Band 7
I usually drive a few times a week, mostly when I need to go to work or run errands. I don’t drive every day because sometimes it’s easier to use public transport. On weekends, I might drive more if I’m going out with friends or family.
Band 8
I typically drive several times a week, mainly for commuting to work, running errands, or meeting friends. I don’t drive daily since public transport is quite convenient for some routes, especially during busy hours. On weekends or holidays, I tend to drive more often, particularly if I’m going on a trip or visiting family. Driving gives me flexibility and saves time, so I prefer it when the weather is good and traffic isn’t too bad. Overall, it’s a practical part of my routine but not something I do all the time.
4. Do you think driving is difficult?
Band 7
At first, I found driving quite difficult because there’s a lot to learn, like controlling the car and following traffic rules. But after some practice, it became easier and more natural. Now, I feel pretty confident when I drive.
Band 8
Initially, I thought driving was quite challenging because it requires good coordination, awareness, and quick decision-making. There’s also the pressure of following traffic laws and being responsible for safety. However, with regular practice and experience, I became much more comfortable behind the wheel. While it can still be stressful in heavy traffic or bad weather, overall I find driving manageable and even enjoyable at times. It’s a skill that takes time to develop, but once you get the hang of it, it feels quite natural.
5. Would you like to have your own car?
Band 7
Yes, I would like to have my own car in the future because it would make traveling easier and more convenient. I wouldn’t have to depend on public transport or others for rides. However, owning a car can be expensive, so I need to think about it carefully.
Band 8
Definitely, I would love to have my own car someday as it would give me a lot of freedom and flexibility. Having a car means I could travel whenever I want without worrying about schedules or availability of public transport. It would also be more comfortable, especially for longer trips or when carrying heavy things. Of course, owning a car comes with costs like fuel, maintenance, and insurance, so I’d need to plan for that. Still, I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and having a personal vehicle would greatly improve my daily life.
